At Home in the Garden #6

It isn't stitched down yet.  But it is going to be cute.  I am going to put beads on these for eyes as well as most of the birds in the other blocks.  We have some blue birds that come and eat our dog food.  I love to watch them.  They aren't coming as much now that it is summer.  The color of these reminds me of them.  The wool here is mostly recycled wools.  The tail was my father in-laws coat and the wings came from a shirt, the heads were from a jacket.  You have to love the dyes you can get to make the colors you want.

Fairy Tea Party

Fairy Tea Party

 Each year my sister, Suzanne, has a fairy tea party at her home.  She invites all the neighborhood girls and boys.  The girls dress up in fairy costumes, some with wings, some with out.  They have a craft of making jeweled fairy wands, they get their faces painted, there is a puppet show, and some refreshments.

 Her third daughter, Brianna, is painting the girls faces.  She is a fabulous make-up artist.

 Her fifth daughter is dancing with her friends for every one.

 Samantha and Chad are the king and queen.  They are my sister daughter and son in-law.

 Even the boys love the party.  Asher is bowing to the king and queen.

 The fairy queen gives wishes to the kids and sprinkles glittery fairy dust on their heads.

 Grandma and great grandma to these little fairies.

 Ok, doesn't this just look like they are just landing from their flight.

 Family really makes events like this work out.  Each member in her family and some neighbors pitched in and made it a magical day for the kids.  They let any one come and it is so fun.

At Home in the Garden #5

Cat Block

I wish on this block I had made the tree taper all the way up to the top in one piece.  The branches are really seven pieces. I think that if the middle one were a little thicker as it tapered up to the top the others wouldn't have been as difficult to put under the branch.  None of it is really difficult but that one thing would have been nice to have done.  When you are putting the grass on remember that you need the seam allowance on all the sides of each block.  If you put the grass on the edge you would have had quite a bulky seam and your quilt wouldn't be flat.

My Mothers Garden

My mother has a really large garden in the middle of the city.  It takes up most of her yard.  There are so many things growing it is like an oasis for my soul.  She is older now and can't keep up with the weeds like she used to.  My sister Heather, in the picture is great to go and help in the yard each week.
I am so grateful to her.

 This past week we went to visit.  We live quite aways from Mom.  I was able to help in the garden.  I love to weed.  I don't do it much lately.  I enjoyed myself.  My mother loves to be creative,  she took the opportunity to spend time with my girls.  She took loads of pictures of them.

My mother has costumes she keeps to use in her pictures.  These farm girl dresses and  baskets worked out well.  I didn't photo shop any so you could see how the shoot goes for us.  Normally I would crop the photos so that you couldn't see the shoes or my sisters arm.

 Her flowers are beautiful.  She really loves the garden.  After all the gardening my benders hurt.  My legs and back remembered what I haven't been doing.  I also remembered how much I am missing.  I really need to get my garden going.

 The flowers bring in the butterflies and bees.  The whole place is humming in activity.  There was one bumble bee I wish I had taken a picture of.  I wondered how it could fly it looked so heavy.

 Her garden looks so old fashioned.  The perfect kind for pictures.

Mom is a painter and uses her photography for her paintings.  These are mostly her photos.  It is so fun to be creative in so many ways and my mother is just that, creative in so many ways.

 Zoey is picking raspberries and Heather is holding the umbrella.  The clouds weren't always cooperating.  It really makes a difference to have that more diffused light.

Dog Block

The dog block turned out well.  It is all glued down here.  It took a while to get the leaves on just right and the right curve to the branches.  I have decided to add a bead to his head for an eye.  I love how wool will stretch and move with out problems.  I cut the branches on the grain and they curved just right for me.  I like how well wool will behave and generally do what I want.  You have to be careful though that you don't make your branches too thin, they will come apart if there isn't enough to hold it together.  The stitching is very little on those little branches.

Quilt Walk Trunk Show 2014

The Trunk Shows

I forgot that I had these pictures on my phone.  I thought that I should get them off and show them.  Sorry for the delay.

This is Jenny Doan in the Panguitch High School Auditorium giving us a trunk show.  I only took the one picture because everything is so accessible on her fabulous web site.  I also felt like my phone didn't take the sort of pictures I really wanted.  Oh well.  I decided to share the pictures any way.

 The rest of these quilts were for the Saturday trunk show.  I was helping hold quilts on the Friday one so no pictures.  These quilts were made by Carol Day and her group.  I think I would call her group a Bee.  They get together and sew regularly.  I don't remember who made what but the variety was wonderful.  The group was so fun and lively.

 These ladies decorated the whole auditorium with beautiful quilts.  I loved it.  They do amazing stuff.

 The fabrics on these quilts is so vibrant.  I love the effect.  I would love to try to make something like it.  I can't remember if she dyed her own fabrics of not.

 These quilts are Around the Town.  I have this quilt all cut out and ready to appliqué.  I even made a set for my sister.  They are just sitting there waiting for me to pick up.  aren't they cute.

 This one was called around the farm.

 This one was Becky Yards.  It was one done for show and tell.  I love it.  It inspired me to think about making one.  I love the stars she appliqued in the corners.  She made it as a gift.  She used the Quilt Smart method.  I have heard so people love it and others don't.  Becky loved it.  Becky is on the left.

 This quilt was gorgeous.  Can you imagine all the work that went into this quilt.
