Heather"s Quilts

My sister has been busy making some beautiful quilts.  She used some charm packs for these.  It is fun to see the color play in each of these quilts.  The looks are different with similar fabrics.

This one below was made with a sampler pack.  I have a few of those and need to get to making some quilts up.  I love how this Christmas one turned out.  It is simple and shows off the beautiful fabrics.

Gardening Fair Exhibits

I am truely amazed at what people are able to grow in this cool climate.  I am so glad we got this many entries.  This year was a funny year.  Many people told me that they didn't do as well this year.  I bet it was from the cool weather at the first of the season.

This cabbage was huge.

If you are wondering what is in this vase, It is a couple of tadpoles.  I thought that was a great way to add interest to the flowers.

The house plants are so green.  I am amazed because mine don't always look so great.  They will for a little while and then struggle before looking great again.  That is all of our plant exhibits except for the 4H.  Next year maybe we can get more people entering.

Harvest

Fall is the time I feel so thankful for all the bounty the Lord has given us.  The trees are full of fruit and the gardens laiden with vegetables.  With the bounty in the garden comes the hard work of bottling all that wonderful food.  It almost comes to me in panic mode that I have to get all this put up  before it rotts. My golden delicious apples need just a little longer before they are ripe and I am looking forward to the dried apples, sauce and juice I can put up.

These melt in your mouth raspberries made some fabulous jam.  If you ever hear of seedless raspberries let me know.  I do love Jerilu's thornless plants.

I thought you would like to see a useful way to use your scraps.  Jerilu has tied her branches to some guide wires so they will grow the way she wants them to.

This is the ribbon that ties the Riley Blake ten inch squares.  I am sure the birds have tried to get this for their nests.

I threw in a couple of sheep pictures just so you could see them.

Barn Quilts

I have listened to a pod cast on barn quilts and thought that it was amazing how these quilts could help out the economy in an economicly supressed area.  There are maps and tours now that are offered so you can see barn quilts.  I was at Swiss Days in Midway, Utah and saw these beautiful barn quilts for sale.  Abby Hicks is the designer of these.  I was drawn to them.   She sells several different styles and colors.  I am hoping that she is going to come to our Quilt Walk and teach a class.  I would love to make one of these of a special size to fit my home.

This is my personal favorite.  I even have fabric  set aside to make a lone star quilt.  I love the colors of this one too.

Garfield County Fair Dutch Oven Cook Off

Our Fair has a dutch oven cook off each year.  It is great for a hungry family because it costs only two dollars a person and you get to try everyones creations.  We all become judges too.  I cannot remember what each winner wins but I think it is fifty dollars for the winner and then forty for the second place.  Like I said I am not positive but the tasting of all the entries is a load of fun.

This is a mixed berry crisp.

Cinnamon rolls, some with raisins and some without.  They were great.  In fact these won the dessert section.

I think this was a stew.  It was yummy too.

We had a couple of potatoe entries.

Now this is a picture on only one of the plates.  To get all of the entries I needed two plates to hold all of the food.  My favorite was the ribs.  They were really good.  Now these are just a few of the entries too.  Everyone that participated did a great job with their entries.  In fact most of them had a couple of entries.

Lanas

These two are the latest quilts from LaRetta.  The one above is done with the half hexie ruler.  Missouri Star has the tutorial on this quilt.  

LaRetta went through her stash and cut strips of fabric and made this like a jelly roll race.  I love how it turned out.  Look on the edge on the left how she made a boarder.  That is cute too.

Lana was auditioning her fabrics for her next quilt.  The colors look good to me.

This is her pinwheel.  The pinwheeels stick out and are ruffley.  She is amazing.

Beaver quilt challenge

For the Beaver County Fair, they have a quilt challenge.  You can purchase a fat quarter of focus fabric for two dollars.  Then you design a quilt to go with the theme of the fair.  Rev it up was the theme for this year.  At the time I was there they only had the five entries.  They have had the whole wall covered in the past.  Maybe later on they had more quilts.  I think this sounds fun for our fair.  If not whole quilts maybe just a block challenge.  I would like to know what you all think.  I did think that even a round robin that had to do with the fair would be fun.  If I get some of your input I can make the suggestion to the committee.
