Panguitch 3rd Ward Wood Haul

Our church, each fall, has a wood haul.  We get together as a ward, all those willing and able, and go up the mountain and gather wood for those that can't.  A lot of homes here use wood stoves to heat them.  Some widows and others put in a request and we go to work.  It sort of feels like a barn raising to me.  We are all working together towards a common goal.  We are serving others.  Those that could not come helped in other ways like babysitting, cooking and things like that.

Cutting wood is one of my favorite dates.  The kids love to get out of the work and my husband and I love the time together.  It is very satisfying to prepare for the winter.

This is Chad.

Notice that the trees here are black.  They had a forest fire here and the trees were burned on the outside and not all the way through.  The wood should burn well though.  I don't know why they didn't all just burn down.  This land is owned by a family in Panguitch and they donated the wood from their property to supply us.
We had the missionaries there helping too.  They really worked hard.  If you are in need of some help don't hesitate to call our missionaries.  They are fabulous.

We had more loaders than cutters so we had to wait at times.

Trevin

They are working on the saw.  For some reason it wouldn't start this time.

Our bishop was right there helping.  He brought his family.

This is our Bishop's wife, Jodi.  She is great, and working hard.

Just look at how full this truck is.  I didn't count how many trucks we had or filled.

This truck is going to go unload on the other side of the field.  The wood that didn't get delivered is stored for later in the winter when someone is in need of it.

At the end we gather at the church pavilion and have a meal that the relief society puts together. We had hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and desserts.  The Relief Society put this together.

World Wide Blog Hop

The World Wide Blog Hop

Wow a world wide blog hop.  Amazing, all the things that come your way.  Thanks Jan for thinking of me.  I am a wife to a loving husband and a mother of three boys and two girls.  They are great kids and I love being their mom.  I have only been blogging for less than a year and I did it to stretch myself.  I do not have a gift for words but I have been blessed with so many interests.  I think I collect hobbies.  There are so many things to do and learn out there that each new thing I try broadens my horizon and is fun to me.

Question 1
What am I working on?
Right now because it is fall and all of the fruit and vegetables are ripe, I am bottling fruit.  I have done peaches, pears, jams and jellies, juices and relishes.  I am also drying herbs and apples slices.  I have lots more to do.  My apple tree is loaded and it only produces every other year so I need to bottle all I can to last both years.  Normally I would be working on a wool project.  I am also working on a churn dash quilt.  I really need to get this top finished because I am teaching it this week at our guild.

I am using Jenny Doan's method for this quilt block.  You can see her tutorial on youtube or Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I changed the size so that I could use the accu-quilter.  I am also doing it scrappy with some of the fabrics from my stash.

Question 2
How does my work differ from others in this genre?
I don't think that my work really differs but I love to change things to make them my own.  I really will try anything to see if I like it.  I love wool but am willing to work with all fabrics.  There aren't many people in our area that work with wool, but I have seen many outside our area with beautiful work.

Question 3
Why do I write/create what I do?
Well, I blog so I can share what I have seen or what I am doing.  I think part of it is that so many people inspire me to create and do better,  so I want to help others feel that same inspiration.  I also like to be able to show my family what I am working on.

Question 4
How does my writing/creative process work?
I feel more irritable if I don't have some creative outlet in my day.  Some days you can feel the need to be creative.  It may be just taking photos on a walk or it may be sewing on one of my projects.  Even making a new recipe helps fill that need to create.  I am inspired by those around me that do so much.  I can think up more projects than I will have time for in my life.  I feel really blessed to have so many creative out lets.  I am most creative when I am working on a project.  It seems to get those creative juices flowing.

I am tagging Nancy Moore with tominerfolkart.blogspot.com.  I have been checking out her blog and  quilts for years.  I really enjoy her work and love the wild life photos.  She is very talented and I hope you also enjoy her work.

The games at the Fair

Our fair has load to do.  The kids love it.  There are bouncy toys to spend all their energy on.  They have these at an all day price and the kids love it.

The  kids love the climbing wall.  My kids practiced and practiced until they got to the top.  It was fun.

Trevin Fraiser made some games for the fair for his eagle project.  My kids loved them.  They had jenga, angry birds sling shot, plinko, and more.  He really put a lot of work into these games and I thought they were great.

Another county lent us a darling farm set.  It has chickens, eggs, vegetables, tractors, trees and fruits.  It was really cute.  Sophie liked it also.

Mud Volleyball is a definite hit with my son.  He loves all sports and won't miss this.  They really got dirty but they had fun.  This is the same place they have the greased pig and derby.

These walking on water balls were a hit.  They were included in the bouncy toy wristband deal and I think my daughter spent her day doing this.  She loved it and really she has great balance.  She really could run and not fall right away.  I don't think I could stand the thought of being in there and trying to breath.

Orange Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread

Orange Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread

This recipe started from allrecipes.com but I changed it up.  I don't like cinnamon and nutmeg in all my breads so I left it out of mine.  It also called for nuts and we have nut allergies in our family so I left those out also.  The bread has a great texture and tastes really good.  I think if I had more oranges I would have increased the zest slightly.  I tend to have extra zucchini that is over flowing the measuring cup too when I measure.

The bread turned out really well.  I made muffins and bread out of this recipe and my family liked it.  One of my daughters thought there were too many chocolate chips in it though.

Orange Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread

3 eggs
2 c sugar
1 c oil
2 tsp vanilla
2 c zucchini
1 c chocolate chips
1 TBL Orange zest
3 c flour
1/4 tsp baking Powder
1 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp salt
Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean when inserted into the center of the loaf.  It makes 2 loaves.  Mini muffins take about 13 minutes.

Vanilla Zucchini Bread

Vanilla Zucchini Bread

It seams to me that it is hard to find that zucchini bread recipe that your whole family will like.  I was making my zucchini bread to use up that plethora of zucchini that you get each fall.  I hate to waste, so I bake them into breads and muffins and freeze them.  I have found for me that I never use the zucchini that I shredded and put in my freezer, but the breads are ready to go.  I can grab a couple of loaves for a guild meeting or someone I visit without having to stop what I am doing.  They thaw very quickly and taste great.  It is also nice to have some ready for breakfast and snacks.
These are the mini muffins.  My kids loved them.

This is one of the many loaves that I made.

Vanilla Zucchini Bread
3 eggs
2 c sugar
2/3 c oil
1/3 c grated pear
1 1/2 T vanilla
2 c zucchini
3 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
Mix it all together and bake at 350 F. until a tooth pick comes out clean when inserted into the bread.  The bread takes about 55 minutes.                                                                                                                                      If you are making mini muffins they only take about 13 minutes.

In making this recipe it sort of evolved.  I ran out of oil and only had enough for two batches.  I was tripling the batch so I grated a ripe pear to make up the difference in oil.  They turned out better than I ever expected.  My family loves them.

I have made so many I told my husband that maybe I will give them out now for Christmas.  That way I won't have to store them in my freezer and they will be fresh.  Besides doesn't it seem that we get so many treats at Christmas that it would be nice to get it at a different time.  He said people may not remember that I already gave them something.  I told him it doesn't matter I will.

Crocheted Frames

Crocheted Frames

These Crocheted frames are really cute.  You could make them any size to go around any project.  They were at a booth I saw at Swiss Days in Midway, Utah.  I think they are adorable.  You could do mini one for Christmas tree ornaments.
